๐Ÿ… The Cincinnati Bengals Helmet Story

From 1968 to 1980 the Bengals wore a plain orange helmet with the word "BENGALS" across it. Then in 1981 came one of the boldest redesigns in NFL history: full tiger stripes wrapping the shell. No logo, no wordmark โ€” just stripes. More than 40 years later it remains instantly recognizable and one of the most distinctive helmets ever made, in any sport.

๐Ÿง  Collector's Trivia

  • The tiger-stripe helmet debuted in 1981 โ€” the same season the Bengals reached their first Super Bowl.
  • Founder Paul Brown also founded the Cleveland Browns, making the in-state rivalry personal.
  • The striped shell is one of only a handful of NFL helmets with no logo decal at all.
